September - The Final Push

Welcome to September — what I like to call The Final Push. The extension deadline is bearing down on all of us, so this issue is short, sharp, and focused on getting through the next six weeks without losing your mind. Let's get into it.

It's September and truthfully for many of you the “lifestyle” doesn’t seem to be happening right now. First things first its very much okay. I don’t want people thinking that lifestyle firms mean that no one ever works lol

You know what this is a good time for? Saying no. Every year I watch firm owners (myself included) say yes to "just one more" new client in September because the money's tempting. You know what always stays true though – the folks waiting until September tend to do this time and time again on repeat so think carefully if you want that.

Your last six weeks before the 10/15 deadline are not the time to onboard anyone new. New clients mean new systems, new expectations, and new documents you don't have yet — on top of the pile you're already chasing.

For me personally, I've started debating keeping a November list or a follow up list just to make sure those are fresh.

Ok I am not even going to lie to you guys – Lets skip Tech thoughts for September because no one is touching new tech with 9/15 and 10/15 around the corner. As a firm owner myself the thought alone makes me cringe so no tech talk lol

This is the "one more push" pep talk. You're tired, I'm tired, we're all tired. But six weeks is a defined, finite window — not a new permanent state.

Protect your evenings where you can, keep the boundaries you set back in July and August, and remember that the version of you on October 16th will thank the version of you right now for not saying yes to that one more client.
